CEO & Advocacy Update – August 2025

Tēna koutou katoa,

The month of August allows us to reaffirm our collective commitment to whānau-centred care, equity, and innovation in General Practice as we begin the new financial year.

At the start of August we acknowledged Fiona Thomson’s 30 years in primary care as she finished her mahi with Health Hawke’s Bay. It was heartening to see our network come together, with representation from staff, our Board, and Te Matau a Māui Trust, to mihi Fiona and her contribution to our whānau.

In the second week, we held our quarterly Evening Provider Hui. This was a chance to share findings of the Integrated Care Conference held in May. A webinar was also held on our findings while we are also seeking Expressions of Interest for an Integrated Care in Hawke’s Bay group. This can be found on our website: Integrated Care in Hawke’s Bay – Health Hawke’s Bay

Towards the end of August we uplifted our Pacific communities through the “We Thrive” event. Alongside Mapu Maia and Te Whatu Ora, It was a beautiful example of community where health checks and kōrero came together to empower whānau.

Let’s continue to be inquisitive, compassionate, and collaborative as we shape the future of primary care in Te Matau-a-Māui.

Ngā mihi nui,
Irihāpeti Mahuika
