Kevin Snee

Kevin is a medical doctor with extensive experience in health, having worked in general practice and public health in the UK before moving into health leadership. He has held CEO roles for over 20 years, including 10 years as CEO of Hawke’s Bay DHB until 2019. He has great connections both locally and throughout the national health system.
Ana Apatu
Director; deputy board chair
Ana is employed as Chief Executive Wharariki Trust and holds a number of governance roles. She whakapapa to Ngāti Kahungunu. She has worked for a number of years in the area of population health, including co-managing a Primary Health Organisation for Ngāti Toa. She is passionate about setting a strategic vision that will empower communities and whānau to self-determine their health care needs and how these needs will be met.
Trish Giddens
Director; Te Matau ā māui trust chair
Trish has worked, volunteered, and governed in health and social services these past 43 years. Working largely in management, her career has been in hospital and health centres, centre and home services for the older person, local government and education. Recently retired, she continues to volunteer and govern representatively at a community and regional level. She is Ngāti Kahungunu, has two adult children and one grandchild, and resides in Waipukurau, Central Hawke’s Bay.
Jonathan Bell
Director; board health & safety representative
Hailing from Central Otago, Jonathan has had a varied career over the past 40 years holding senior management roles in a number of different industries including marketing, banking, Finance & Credit and the Not-for-Profit Sector.
Married to Deb, they have two adult children, both residing in Hawkes Bay and have lived here for the past 25 years. Jonathan has a passion for his community in particular improving opportunities for our Rangatahi through better health services and education.
Jonathan hopes to bring his broad commercial and business experience to the Board of Health Hawkes Bay, along with a good knowledge of the community through his recent role as General Manager of Eastern & Central Community Trust.
David Clapperton
Director
Born and bred in Hastings, David brings 30 years of public and private sector experience to the Board of Health Hawke’s Bay.
Recognised as a high-performing leader, he is currently employed as Chief Executive, Eastern and Central Community Trust (ECCT).
He is successful in achieving significant community and business objectives through effectively communicating, facilitating conversations, and developing partnerships.
Dr Louise Haywood
Director
Dr Louise Haywood is a general practitioner and practice owner at Hastings Health Centre She was appointed to the Health Hawke’s Bay board in 2023 and is also chair of the Clinical Advisory and Governance committee. She is also a co-chair of the Hawke’s Bay Faculty of the Royal NZ College of GPs. She is a member of the Institute of Directors. She loves working strategically to achieve the best outcomes for our communities.
Dr Darryn Russell

Darryn was appointed in 2021 as Chief Executive Officer for Heretaunga Tamatea Settlment Trust, a post settlement governance entity within the Ngāti Kahungunu collective . This follows 20 years in senior roles at Universities of Otago and University of Canterbury. Darryn also retains directorships Retara Holdings Ltd and Chairperson of DOVE Hawkes. Darryn has also held prior governance roles across iwi entities, National Crown bodies, regulatory bodies and community groups.
Darryn’s personal and professional passion is iwi development, stemming from a community work background, aligned to undergraduate, masters through to Doctoral qualifications.
Andrew Lesperance
Director
Andrew Lesperance returns to the board having been a director from 2019 to 2022. Andrew has a background in nursing and a Master of Finance, and was CEO of Hastings Health Centre for many years. He has also had positions in District Health Boards and is currently CEO of Cranford Hospice, giving him great connections and knowledge of health system funding and operations.
