Frequently Asked Questions:

Why did the criteria change?

Due to funding constraints in the current environment, the programme was expecting to overspend. To ensure we can continue to support care for our most vulnerable rangatahi, some additional criteria were applied to those eligible to access the free service.

Who made this decision?

Health Hawke’s Bay is collaborating with Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora on this service to ensure rangatahi have the best opportunity to receive quality healthcare in Hawke’s Bay.  This collaborative decision was made to ensure the funding reached those that need it most.

Does this apply only to Hawke’s Bay rangatahi?

Yes, only youth aged 14-24 years old, residing in the Hawke’s Bay region are eligible for this service. Anyone domiciled outside the region is not eligible for this service.

Why does this programme exist?

One barrier rangatahi face for quality healthcare is cost. With this service, we can support the people who need it most. By making healthcare more accessible, young people may develop a habit of regular checkups, leading to a healthier adulthood.

Does this apply to all Hawke’s Bay health practitioners?

Yes, from Central Hawke’s Bay to Wairoa.

Why is there an eligibility criteria?

With limited healthcare resources, eligibility criteria help ensure that those who need this service most can access it.  It ensures that the program remains sustainable for longer, ensuring we can deliver this service to those who need it for a longer period of time.
